What Jinu Is

Jinu is a personal growth assistant that communicates with you via iMessage. It uses AI to have natural conversations, track your goals, build habits, and help you reflect on your day. Jinu is not a therapist, counselor, or medical professional.

Information We Collect

When you use Jinu, we collect and store:

  • Phone number — your iMessage phone number, used to send and receive messages.
  • Messages — the text messages you send to and receive from Jinu, including voice memo transcriptions.
  • Facts and preferences — details extracted from your conversations (e.g., your name, goals, interests) to personalize your experience.
  • Goals and habits — goals you set and habits you track through conversation.
  • Usage metadata — timestamps, message counts, and engagement patterns to improve the service.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to:

  • Have personalized conversations with you (remembering your name, goals, and context).
  • Track your goals, habits, and streaks across conversations.
  • Send proactive check-ins at your preferred times.
  • Generate conversation summaries for continuity.
  • Improve the quality of Jinu's responses over time.

Third-Party Services

Jinu uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • OpenAI — your messages are processed by OpenAI's GPT-4o model to generate responses. OpenAI's API data is not used for training per their API terms.
  • SendBlue — handles iMessage delivery. Your phone number and message content pass through their system.
  • Supabase — hosts our database where your data is stored. Data is encrypted at rest.
  • Vercel — hosts the application infrastructure.

What We Never Do

  • We never sell your data to anyone.
  • We never share your data for advertising purposes.
  • We never use your data to train AI models.
  • We never share information from your DMs into group chats (if you use Jinu in a group).

Data Access and Control

You have full control over your data:

  • View your data — text Jinu “what do you know about me?” to see what facts have been stored.
  • Correct your data — tell Jinu if something is wrong and it will update its records.
  • Delete your data — text “delete my data” and confirm. This permanently removes all your messages, facts, goals, habits, and streaks.
  • Pause or stop — text PAUSE to temporarily stop check-ins, or STOP to permanently opt out.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your data, it is permanently removed from our database. If you text STOP, your account is deactivated but data is retained in case you return. You can request full deletion at any time.

Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted database connections, secure API authentication, and access controls. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Jinu is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via text message.
